Protaras could give Meade hat-trick at Down Royal

Protaras attempts to give Noel Meade a hat-trick of victories in the Attheraces Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap at Down Royal.

The leading jumps handler has saddled Blue Cannon and Fisher Bridge to glory in this event in 2012 and 2013 respectively, and this year's representative has been in good form over timber this summer, hitting the crossbar at Downpatrick and Killarney.

The one to beat is probably the Dermot Weld-trained Notable Graduate, who would be a deserving winner after settling for the runner-up spot at Gowran Park and Dundalk during the last week.

Intenser is another not allowed to rest on his laurels and takes in the Charles Hurst Premium Nursery Handicap just nine days on from a Gowran Park success.

He has 9st 10lb to shoulder, though, and if it proves beyond him then Johnny Murtagh's handicap newcomer Royal County Boy might be able to capitalise.

Murtagh's Kasbah has plenty of experience to draw upon in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at 4.05pm, and he has acquitted himself well in top company so it will take a good one to lower his colours.

Red Laser was triumphant on the same Gowran card as Intenser and is 7lb higher for the Charles Hurst Premium Handicap, in which he has the welter burden of 10st 2lb.

Leigh Roche has been the making of Annagh Haven - another Gowran scorer - but Robbie Downey takes over for the Charles Hurst Premium Apprentice Handicap, in which she strives to confirm her superiority over Hangar Five, Papaya, Abrahams Blessing and Luso's Way.

Chief Suspect was denied by the narrowest of margins at Dundalk most recently and ran with credit at the Galway the time before, so he appears the pick in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, while Baroque Poet sets the standard in the Mourne Seafood Bar Dublin Belfast Dundrum Claiming Race.
