Rubi Light has been roughed off for the season after disappointing at Clonmel last week.
Trainer Robbie Hennessy gave his stable star a spin over hurdles in the hope it would rekindle his enthusiasm, but he trailed home a well-beaten last of five runners.
Rubi Light, a Grade One winner in his prime, holds an entry in the Crabbie's Grand National but that will now be bypassed.
Hennessy said: "He's finished now for the season. He's just not been sparking.
"He burst (a blood vessel) at Leopardstown in December, but we thought we'd give him a chance at Clonmel.
"Andrew (Lynch, jockey) said he was never travelling so we'll give him six months and get him right again.
"He had a great first run back at Gowran, but he's clearly not 100 per cent right.
"He'll be taken out (of the National) on Tuesday, but there's always next year."
