My Tent Or Yours enhanced his Champion Hurdle claims with a straightforward victory in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle.

The Nicky Henderson-trained six-year-old registered a three-length victory over John Quinn's mare Cockney Sparrow, with another two and a half lengths back to the returning Grumeti.

Henderson and champion jockey Tony McCoy had not enjoyed the best of luck in this race in the past, with Binocular sent off a short-priced favourite three years in a row but failing to win the Grade One.

However, nothing other than a pretty easy success ever looked likely as My Tent Or Yours jumped to the front at the second-last flight, with McCoy just keeping him up to his work.

The disappointment of the race was Elite Hurdle winner Melodic Rendezvous, who never threatened in fifth.

The Christmas Hurdle at Kempton now beckons for the winner on his route, no doubt, for a crack at the likes of Hurricane Fly and The New One in March.

Speaking from Newbury, Henderson said of the 8-11 favourite: "He looked good from what I saw of it, and all being well he'll go off to the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton now."

McCoy, who completed a treble on the day, said: "He's won easy but you would have wanted him to, really.

"I felt us and Grumeti really quickened it up from three out and were really racing.

"It was a good performance, a good starting point, and I'm not surprised he did it like that.

"But for the life of me I can't understand bookmakers cutting him for the Champion Hurdle - he was by far the best horse on paper going in.

"He's got to keep on improving. Hurricane Fly has won 17 Grade Ones and he is the one we all still have to beat, for me."
