Willie Mullins' exciting mare Annie Power is among just seven possible runners in Saturday's Coral Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday.

The Grade One contest was reopened for an extra 24 hours after insufficient entries were received but no more contenders were forthcoming.

Annie Power could be one of the future stars of the National Hunt game and is unbeaten in her seven races to date, signing off last season with a Grade One success at Faiyhouse.

Mullins has also entered Zaidpour, winner of the Hatton's Grace last season, in the same Rich and Susannah Ricci ownership.

Paul Nicholls has entered Zarkandar, who only met with defeat once last season when fourth behind Hurricane Fly in the Champion Hurdle.

He later stepped up in trip at Aintree to beat The New One.

Another interesting entry is Jeremy Scott's Melodic Rendezvous, who had been in the mix for the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle next week.

Nicky Henderson has picked out Rolling Star from his huge team as his possible representative while Charlie Longsdon has entered Magnifique Etoile, who returned from a lengthy absence with a win at Stratford.

Karen McLintock's Bygones Of Brid completes the list.

Given how much weight Annie Power would be in receipt of against her rivals, connections are keen to let her take her chance.

Stable jockey Ruby Walsh told www.racinguk.com: "I was talking to Willie (Mullins) on Thursday and he wanted to enter Annie Power at Ascot for the Ascot Hurdle on Saturday.

"She's a fine, big mare. The penalty structure in the Ascot race appeals to Willie. The Grade One Hurdle she won in March was a novice event, so she only gets a half penalty and she will receive a mare's allowance, which means she runs off only 10st 11lb.

"She won over two miles at Naas when she beat Defy Logic, and quickened up really smartly there. She's by Shirocco and pretty much has everything and is definitely going the right way."
