Galway Festival preview - Day 3

Fosters Cross has recorded three of his 10 career wins at Ballybrit

The www.thetote.com Galway Plate provides the undoubted highlight of the third day of the Galway Festival and sees last year's winner Bob Lingo share top weight with British raider The Disengager.

Bob Lingo is eight pounds higher than when successful last season and though fit from a spin on the Flat, it may be that the winner comes from further down the handicap this year.

Romanesco was in contention for a place in the Irish National when falling at the last and is interesting, but Fosters Cross ran a cracker over timber recently and has winning form at this track.

The meeting gets under way at 3.00 with the €100,000 Tote Pick Six Guarantee Maiden Hurdle, with Blackmail representing the in-form Tony Martin.

After a double on Monday's card, Martin also sends Victrix Gale for the €40,000 Tote Jackpot Guarantee Handicap Hurdle, though he will have to step up on his Uttoxeter seventh to stop Shanpallas.

Charles Byrnes' charge relished the step up to two and a half miles when successful at Down Royal, so this longer trip could be even more suitable.

Dessie Hughes has booked the services of Ruby Walsh to ride Lady Of Glencoe in the Bet 10 Euros Get 10 Euros at thetote.com Handicap Hurdle.

The pair combined to score at Punchestown when they were last united, and could have enough to beat King High and Point The Toes here.

Aidan O'Brien has reached for a visor for Army Ranger as he bids to go one better than his Tipperary debut in the Tote Win 24% Better Than Bookmakers SP (QR) Maiden.

Dermot Weld has a relatively small number of runners on the card, but still holds outstanding claims with Jayed Jidan in the Tote Return All Profits To Irish Racing Maiden and Lucky Kitten in the Bet Online At thetote.com Handicap.
