Kempton racecourse has renamed its 12-furlong Listed race on Wednesday the Congratulations Champion Jockey Richard Hughes Betdaq Floodlit honour of the rider who will be crowned as the leading rider for the first time at Doncaster on Saturday.

Hughes, who had initially decided not to ride before his coronation on Town Moor this weekend having been in action at the Breeders' Cup, will now ride in six races and will even partner Sir Michael Stoute's Sequence for the Queen in his own race.

During 2012 Hughes has ridden at Kempton more than any other racecourse and from 120 rides has partnered 24 winners since January, although only winners since the beginning of the Turf season at Doncaster in March have counted towards his championship win.

"Richard is a hugely popular jockey around Kempton Park and he takes numerous rides here," said head of racing and clerk of the course Barney Clifford.

"His first Jockeys' Championship is richly deserved after being a very close second behind Paul Hanagan two years ago.

"We are delighted that he will be here at the final fixture of the championship campaign at Kempton Park."
