Johnny Murtagh will ride at Gowran Park on Wednesday

Johnny Murtagh returns from a spell on the sidelines for one ride at Gowran Park on Wednesday.

Murtagh suffered facial injuries when unshipped from Lottie Dod prior to the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on August 12 and was in the news last week after his contract with owner and breeder the Aga Khan was terminated with immediate effect.

Trainer John Oxx confirmed on Monday he would continue to use Murtagh on his horses not under the ownership of the Aga Khan and he is on course to partner Born To Sea for the yard in Saturday's Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

He eases his way back into competitive action midweek at Gowran Park, with the Tommy Carmody-trained Sherzam his sole mount.

The two-year-old filly, owned by Andrew Tinkler, lines up in the Rooftop Restaurant at Gowran Park Nursery.
