Team Ireland claimed the Irish vs Australian Jumps Jockeys Challenge for a 23rd time at Morphettville today.

Victory was assured when Ben Dalton and Philip Enright filled the first two placings in the Leslie Short Steeplechase.

Dalton partnered Rabbuka to victory to put the Irish team 15 points ahead of their rivals.

He said: "He's possibly a 0-109 horse at home but he won well, jumped great and made all."

Although Australia hit back with a one-two in the Leslie Short Hurdle, Ireland still marched on to a 39.5-31.5 triumph.

Team Manager Sean Lynch said: “We've had a great week in Australia and we are delighted to win the series, Morphettville's Irish Day was another resounding success for the South Australian Jockey Club.

"There were three races in this challenge and after losing the series to the Aussies last year we were hungry for success this year.

"This is my 26th trip Down Under as Irish Team Captain having overseen a total of over 100 travelling jockeys over those years.”

The challenge has been held in Australia for 25 years, but had previously been staged in Ireland for 11 years.

"This Irish win brings the overall score to 23 wins for Ireland, 13 for Australia and one draw.
