Ruby Wales is taken to hospital for scans after falling in the Galway hurdle

Ruby Walsh was taken to hospital for precautionary X-rays after temporarily being knocked unconscious following a fall in the Guinness Galway Hurdle.

Walsh was partnering the Willie Mullins-trained favourite Drive Time in the prestigious handicap until he came to grief at one of the hurdles passing the stands with a circuit to run.

Walsh was motionless on the turf for a while before being stretchered off the track.

Walsh's father, Ted, said: "Ruby was knocked out for a little while. The horse stepped into the hurdle and he got a bang from behind.

"He was semi-conscious there for a while but he'll be all right. He's gone off to hospital in Galway and he thinks he might have broken his collarbone.

"It all happened there at the hurdle passing the stands and when you see something like that there is a bit of a hush in the crowd, but thankfully it is nothing worse than what we saw.

"I think you're out for a mandatory seven days after being knocked out and the collarbone will be a couple of weeks on top of that, but if that's all it is we can live with it."
