Naas preview

There are potential Classic clues on offer at Naas on Wednesday as Was tries to book her Investec Oaks ticket in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Blue Wind Stakes.

The close relation to Derby hero New Approach couldn't have been more impressive when making a successful debut at the Curragh last summer and is a best-price 20-1 for Epsom.

Aaraas and Cleofila were a long way behind her stable companion Kissed in the Salsabil Stakes, so trainer Aidan O'Brien should have a good idea of the threat of that pair, but John Oxx has taken this Group Three prize twice since 2007 and his Limerick winner Shebella is a potential improver.

Dermot Weld's Princess Highway and the David Wachman-trained Aloof complete a strong line-up.

O'Brien started Maybe off in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden (5.20) last year and this year's representative is Delight, a Danehill Dancer half-sister to Richmond Stakes winner Hamoody.

The Ballydoyle handler has also landed the Fishery Lane Race for the last three seasons, but his 370,000gns purchase Parliament Square faces a tough introduction against previous winners Canary Row, Dawn Approach and Tennessee Wildcat.

Oxx has given his course winner Royal Visit a Group Three entry later on this summer, so she must surely go close off an initial mark of 86 in the Naas Racecourse Handicap.

Her stablemate Handazan flopped in the Dundalk race won by Ernest Hemingway, but he ran well behind a couple of Derby aspirants in 2011 and bids to break through in the Kill (C & G) Maiden.

Landsdowne justified favouritism at Cork last week and has a 5lb penalty to contend with in the naasracecourse.com Apprentice Handicap, while there are plenty of unexposed sorts lurking in the Summer BBQ Evenings At Naas Handicap, notably Possible, Machine Gun Monkey and Steely Grace.
