Alan McCabe admits Caspar Netscher will be heading into "unknown territory" on Saturday when he contests the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket over a mile.
A son of Dutch Art, who finished third to Cockney Rebel in the 2007 renewal, Caspar Netscher was one of the success stories of last season.
A relative bargain buy at 65,000 guineas from Katie Walsh, he landed the Gimcrack and Mill Reef in a busy juvenile season.
On his only previous attempt at a mile he finished eighth from a bad draw in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf but proved he had trained on when lowering the colours of Richard Hannon's Bronterre in the Greenham at Newbury.
Kieren Fallon struck up a good partnership with him last year but nailed his colours to Brian Meehan's Most Improved a few weeks ago, enabling Shane Kelly to step in for the ride in the Greenham and connections have stuck by the Leitrim man.
"Caspar Netscher has been in good form since Newbury and he did it nicely that day - I'm happy with him. Going into the race he was where I wanted him and he did it accordingly," said McCabe.
"He has definitely come on for the run and I hope he has got further improvement left in him.
"We are going into unknown territory in regards to trip, but we are going there in very good nick and Shane Kelly will ride."
Richard Hannon jnr has warned punters not to write off Bronterre, despite his defeat behind Caspar Netscher in the Greenham
"He's a horse we like a lot, a class horse, and capable of better," Hannon jnr told Racing UK's podcast.
"We were very disappointed with him at Newbury but we are still going to run him. He's much better than that."
The Hannons will also be represented by impressive Craven Stakes winner Trumpet Major.
"Trumpet Major won very well with the penalty and showed us how good he is," said Hannon jnr.
"Trumpet Major is the form horse going into the race, but they are two very good horses (Trumpet Major and Bronterre) and there's not a lot between them at home.
"I think two or three (of Hannon's) will turn up with Richard Hughes riding Trumpet Major and the others are TBC."
