Flemenstar favoured to land Powers Gold Cup

The Powers Gold Cup is the highlight of the opening day of Fairyhouse's Easter meeting and sees Flemenstar bid for a second Grade One success.

Peter Casey's star has been a revelation over fences this term and hammered Gift Of Dgab when they met in the Arkle at Leopardstown.

A repeat of that would probably suffice here, but with quicker ground a potential issue, it's hard to rule out Willie Mullins' duo of Bishopsfurze and Call The Police.

Lord Windermere got back to winning ways at Naas last time and he takes another crack at Pattern company when he lines up in the Grade Two Coolmore NH Sires Ask & Getaway Novice Hurdle.

Jim Culloty's charge only missed out when pitched into top company, but he has a penalty for winning three, while Lyreen Legend is more heavily penalised for his win over Folsom Blue at Thurles.

That brings in Ipsos Du Berlais and Maller Tree, should those penalties prove too much to bear.

Mullins has strong claims in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final with recent Listed winner Ceol Rua.

The seven-year-old travelled superbly so may be worth more than that narrow win over the reopposing Shadow Eile, though Back In A Tic and Madam Bovary are other likely dangers.

The meeting kicks off at 1.55 with a bumper field in the Fairyhouse Vets Promoting Equine Health Maiden Hurdle, in which Hawk Flight, He's Our Man and Simon Gray can all be put forward with a convincing case for victory.

Jetson bids to make it two out of two since being stepped up to three miles in the INH Stallion Owners EBF Novice Handicap Hurdle, while the Russell Restaurant Navan Novice Handicap Hurdle looks to be between Competitive Edge and Park Ranger.
