Frankel continues to please Henry Cecil as he builds up towards his mouthwatering clash with Canford Cliffs in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Hot on the heels of a cracking renewal of Saturday's King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, the whole racing world is gearing up for the 'Duel on the Downs' on Wednesday.

With Richard Hannon, Canford Cliffs' trainer, stating earlier in the week that the winner is likely to be hailed as the best horse in the world, the racing fraternity is on tenterhooks.

The unbeaten Frankel divided opinion with his win in the St James' Palace Stakes at Ascot.

While everybody was wowed by his victory in the 2000 Guineas, his jockey Tom Queally came in for criticism after making an early break for home at Ascot.

Nevertheless, the Galileo colt remains unbeaten and his legendary trainer is thoroughly happy with his preparation.

"Frankel seems in very good form at the moment and is really pleasing me in his work," Cecil told his website.

"Obviously Canford Cliffs is the one to beat and it is going to be a very interesting race, but he goes there with a great chance and hopefully he will give a good account of himself."

The big clash moved a step nearer on Thursday when both Frankel and Canford Cliffs were among nine entries which remained at the latest confirmation stage.

Hannon has a second string to his bow in Dick Turpin while Saeed bin Suroor has two options with Delegator and Rio De La Plata to chose from, although the Lennox Stakes over seven furlongs is thought the more likely target for the former.

Mahmood Al Zarooni, could also run Neebras in the Godolphin colours.

Aidan O'Brien's sole entry is Zoffany, second to Frankel at Ascot.

The international interest comes from France in the shape of Freddie Head's Rajsaman, third to stablemate Goldikova in the Prix d'Ispahan when last seen.

Barry Hills' Red Jazz completes the list of possibles.

Those taken out were Antara, Dream Ahead and Maqaasid.
