Cecil faces up to World Domination prospects

Henry Cecil admits it will not be easy preparing World Domination for the Investec Derby given that the colt did not run as a juvenile.

Cecil was the last trainer to win the Classic with a colt who did not make the racecourse until his third year when Commander In Chief upstaged better fancied stablemate Tenby in 1993.

World Domination could not have been more impressive in making a winning debut at Newbury on Saturday but the Warren Place handler is keeping his feet on the ground.

‘I was very pleased with him and he could be exciting but it is not easy going for the Derby with a horse that didn't run at two,’ Cecil told his website, www.henrycecil.com.

‘We did it with Commander In Chief, I'm not saying we're going to do it again, but you never know.

‘This horse would have to progress a lot but we are looking at giving him another run or two, I'll let the horse do the talking.’

World Domination was one of a number of Cecil newcomers who had been making noises in gallop reports and not all lived up to expectations, not least Midday's half-brother Midsummer Sun who was only fifth of seven at Newmarket.

‘I expected that Midsummer Sun would run much better than he did in the mile and a quarter maiden but he took after his sister, Midday, who also took a run to sort herself out,’ added Cecil.

‘He is a colt with potential and has shown plenty in his work. Like most Monsun's he may appreciate some cut in the ground and hopefully we will see a much better run next time.

‘Solar Sky ran very well to be second to World Domination at Newbury. He will get stronger as the year goes on and seems to stay very well.’
