Johnny Murtagh has yet to decide whether to appeal against the six-day ban for careless riding handed to him by the Newmarket stewards following his victory on Starspangledbanner in the July Cup.

The suspension, lasting from 23 to 28 July inclusive, comes at a crucial time of the season.

It rules Murtagh out of the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes meeting at Ascot and the first two days of Glorious Goodwood, which includes the Sussex Stakes.

His possible King George rides include Irish Derby winner Cape Blanco, who could clash with Epsom hero Workforce in the midsummer showpiece.

‘I'll have a look at the video of the race a few times before making a decision on appealing,’ he said at Fairyhouse this afternoon.

He received the punishment for tacking left over to the far rail in the early stages of the race.
