Tipperary project to include all-weather track

An all weather horse racing track has been proposed as part of a major new development close to the Tipperary village of Two-Mile-Borris.

The venture known as the 'Tipperary Venue' is expected to cost €460million and will also include a 5 star hotel, casino, a replica of the White House as it stood in 1829, a 15,000 person capacity music and conference venue, Greyhound track, a signature golf course, a retail outlet, and equestrian centre.

The developers, who include include Dublin-based businessman Richard Quirke predict that a thousand jobs could be created every year until completion and up to 2,000 jobs thereafter.

A planning application is being lodged with North Tipperary Council tomorrow and if permission is granted, organisors say they will be able to begin the project next spring and that it would take three years' to complete.

It's proposed to locate the development on an 800 acre site close to Two-Mile-Borris.

The proposal was unveiled at the Horse and Jockey hotel near Thurles on Tuesday and is being supported by leading horse trainers Aidan O'Brien and Edward O'Grady along with jockey's Johnny Murtagh, Andrew McNamara, Barry Geraghty and others.

MCD Productions is supporting the venture as is Denis Bergin from the White House Historical Association in Washington. Michael Lowry TD has been actively involved in the development of the venture since it was first mooted two years ago.
