Picc in mix for Childers glory

Edward Creighton believes Doncaster's five-furlong record could fall as 10 runners go to post for the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes.

The Mill Hill handler fields Deauville Listed winner Piccadilly Filly in the Group Two contest, which also features Cherry Hinton victor Misheer and the Group Three-placed Mister Manannan, amongst others.

Piccadilly Filly has won two of her five starts this term, breaking her maiden at Lingfield in August before going on to Listed glory in France later that month on her first turf start.

While Creighton admits his front-running filly has a bit to find with the pick of the field, he is anticipating a bold show over the minimum trip.

‘She's been a star for us this season and we were absolutely delighted with her last run in France. Everything just went to plan that day,’ he said.

‘The form got a really nice boost on Wednesday as well when (runner-up) Angel's Pursuit won (at Doncaster), but her form right across the season has been working out.

‘She's a lovely filly and the more horses that come at her, the more she just picks up.

‘It's a big ask for her tomorrow, but I think she has every right to be there.

‘Five furlongs seems to be her speciality at the minute but there's plenty of speedy horses in there that like to be up with the pace.

‘It will be interesting to see how it's run and I think there could even be a track record broken.

‘She's largely been on the all-weather but the ground in Deauville was lively enough so I don't think we have too much to worry about.’

Piccadilly Filly is currently engaged in next month's Group One Prix de l'Abbaye, but Creighton has yet to make a decision on whether to pitch her in against the older horses.

‘She's entered in the Prix de l'Abbaye as you have to make these entries so early in the year,’ he added.

‘There's not much for her at the end of the season so we put her in and we are open-minded about it.’
