Connections of Midday admit they would not like to see more rain at Goodwood if they are to let her bid for Group One glory in the Blue Square Nassau Stakes.
The Khalid Abdullah-owned filly ran a mighty race to go down by just a head to Sariska in the Oaks at Epsom, before finishing third in the Irish equivalent in ground that was far too testing for her.
The owner's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe does not want the filly to encounter similar conditions tomorrow, and is keeping a keen eye on the weather.
‘Everything has been fine with her since the Curragh and all her work has been good since. She's well in herself and has held on to her condition nicely, so Henry is very pleased with her,’ said Grimthorpe.
‘The ground would probably be fine for her at this stage, but if it rained again we may not run her.
‘I know the ground will probably be sticky today and it certainly wouldn't need to rain any more for her.
‘Obviously we know she stays a mile and a half well having finished second in an Oaks and third in an Irish Oaks, but I don't see any reason why a mile and a quarter wouldn't suit her.
‘It's a very competitive race and while she probably deserves to win one of these, deserving is one thing and getting is another.’
Cheveley Park Stud-owned duo Heaven Sent and Spacious are set to lock horns for the third time this season.
Spacious came home in front when winning Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot, while Heaven Sent was narrowly ahead when the pair ran second and third respectively in the Falmouth Stakes.
‘They have both been remarkably consistent this season and I suppose the only slight concern for Heaven Sent would be the going as she prefers top of the ground,’ said the stud's racing manager Chris Richardson.
‘We were delighted with the pair of them in the Falmouth and I think they have both progressed from there. It's another highly competitive contest but they are in good form and we are looking forward to it.
‘Heaven Sent was fourth in this race last year and while her ideal trip is probably nine furlongs, I think she does stay the mile and a quarter.
‘With Spacious, looking at her action, we have always felt she should stay and this is the logical race for both horses.
‘They do keep coming up against each other but in a race like this it's better to have two chances than one.
‘Hopefully we can separate them after this race but we've said that before, so we'll see.’
