Jockey Yutaka Take is backing Japanese raider Vodka to improve upon last year's Dubai Duty Free effort - despite finishing only fifth over course and distance on 'Super Thursday' earlier this month.
Twelve months ago the Katsuhiko Sumii-trained mare finished fourth behind Jay Peg, Darjina and Archipenko in the hands of Take and has since gone on to win twice at Group One level.
The five-year-old will on Saturday renew rivalries with defending champion Jay Peg and Mike de Kock's Archipenko.
Balius also reopposes, having won the Duty Free prep race in which Vodka, who was boxed in on the rail, finished down the order.
‘Last year she was fourth, but this year she is back in a much better condition than last year,’ said Take.
‘On 'Super Thursday' she couldn't get outside and did not have enough space.’
Gladiatorus is also expected to make a challenge for Mubarak bin Shafya after impressively winning his two starts this season at Nad Al Sheba.
‘Over a mile I don't think anyone will beat me, but it is just that extra distance that is a worry,’ said his jockey Ahmed Ajtebi.
‘It is a really good race - there are ten Group One winners in there - but he is working really well and I am glad I am riding him.’
