Lowther in Newmarket move

The Lowther Stakes has become the latest race to be moved from the abandoned meeting at York and will now become part of a nine-race card at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Group Two contest will be the second race of the meeting after the Thoroughbred Breeders Association and the Levy Board stepped in to save the £60,000 contest.

The first race will now take place at 12.50pm. TBA chairman Kirsten Rausing said: 'We are delighted to be able to step in, with the support of the Levy Board, to save this historic and valuable race for 2008.

'Testing fillies and mares at all levels is essential to maintaining the quality of British bloodstock, which is a fundamental objective of the TBA.'
