Former Stewards' Cup winner Borderlescott will step back up in class in Saturday's betfred.com Temple Stakes after gaining a confidence-boosting success on his seasonal return.
Robin Bastiman's speedster won with something in hand in a conditions event at the start of the month to justify a crack at the Group Two prize.
‘He's come on for his last run so he'll go to Haydock and we'll give it a go,’ said the North Yorkshire trainer.
‘A fast-run race will suit him and we'll see where we are afterwards. I don't think five or six furlongs makes a difference to him but he just wants it run fast.’
Bastiman is keen not to over-face his stable flagbearer this term but hopes he can still make a deserved breakthrough at Pattern level.
‘He's not entered up for Royal Ascot as we wanted to give that a miss and he's not in the July Cup either,’ Bastiman continued.
‘We're just keen to see how he goes back over five furlongs to be honest.
‘We've got a few options for him with the King George at Goodwood and a few other little races.
‘If he's not good enough on Saturday then we can go back to Listed class and work our way back up again.’
