Hughie Morrison believes the bookmakers have called it right by installing Sakhee's Secret as clear favourite for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock next weekend.
The sponsors have the July Cup winner as their 9-4 market leader with Dutch Art next best at 7-1.
And after a pleasing gallop yesterday, Morrison is convinced he made the correct decision to bypass the Nunthorpe Stakes, won by two-year-old Kingsgate Native last week.
‘As he stays in training next year I'm quite philosophical about the remainder of this season as he has already proven his level of ability at the highest level,’ said Morrison.
‘I'm not a betting expert because I'd only bet on a certainty, but with Sakhee's Secret having beaten most of the opposition he's likely to face next Saturday, the bookmakers are probably about right with their current odds.
‘He worked well enough today (Friday), and he will go to Haydock providing their are no extremes in the ground there,’ he told the Racing Post.
‘I think we got it right by resisting the challenge (last week). All along I'd reckoned the Nunthorpe wasn't the race for him this year and, after listening to jockeys describe ground conditions at York, we were wise to stay at home. However, I wouldn't rule out the Nunthorpe next year.’
