Nahoodh upsets Lowther fancies

Mick Channon continued his remarkable record in the Jaguar Cars Lowther Stakes when the maiden Nahoodh lowered the colours of some highly-touted fillies.

Well-fancied when making her debut in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, she ran no sort of race, but she performed much better on her next start in a hot maiden at Newmarket.

Sent off at 15-2 for the Lowther, she slightly missed the break under Jamie Spencer but picked up in great style. The 6-4 favourite Visit suffered a slightly troubled passage and flashed home to finish second, half a length behind, with Fleeting Spirit third.

Ballydoyle's You'resothrilling appeared to be struggling to make any impression when she lost her action and dropped right away.

Spencer said: 'She has loads of talent but wouldn't settle early. I went earlier than I normally would because you can get away with it on outsiders, and I took a chance.

'I managed to nick a length and I got a run when Ryan (Moore, Visit) didn't, and I saw him flash home.'

Winning trainer Channon was delighted as he also has Albany Stakes winner Nijoom Dubai for the major fillies' races.
He said: 'It was my fault I ran her in a Group race on her debut, but I wanted some decent ground for her.

'The form of her Ascot race has worked out well with Albabilia winning the Sweet Solera. Jamie said they didn't go fast enough for her today and she is very talented. 'I think she can go higher than this, but we'll know more after the Moyglare (Curragh, 2 September), when Nijoom Dubai will run next.'
