The Tatling will attempt to defy his advancing years in the Group Three Audi Stakes at Goodwood - ground permitting.
Milton Bradley's 10-year-old won the five-furlong dash in 2003 and the Monmouthshire handler is hoping to have another crack at the 2 August event.
‘He'd be a very likely runner providing the ground starts to dry up a bit. Like everyone else, we're hoping for a bit of sunshine!' said Bradley.
‘He ran quite well at Ascot in the King's Stand and I think he could have been a couple of places closer if he'd been pressed, but what's the point in being hard on him to finish sixth instead of eighth?
‘I think he had very bad luck in running at Sandown last time, which no-one seems to have noticed. He ran up the back of some horses and had to be snatched up and then switched left and he was only beaten in a photo for third. I think he'd have been second with a clear run.
‘He's not getting any quicker - a bit like me - but to be honest, his last two runs have been right up to his good form if you take into account the bad luck in running. I think he'll run a big race at Goodwood, so long as it dries up a bit.’
The Tatling would be having a fifth crack at the race following a third place in 2004 as well as a second in 2005 and fourth last year.
He could be joined in the line-up by the David Barker-trained Mecca's Mate, who was fifth in 2006 and last seen finishing fifth to Theann in a York Group Three.
Barker said: ‘Mecca's Mate is the most likely of my horses to run there at this stage as she would get a good fast pace at Goodwood.
‘She's in good form and ran OK at York the other day. The sixth furlong just got to her.
‘It was a slow pace which didn't suit her and then stamina got the better of her.’
