Peeping Fawn, placed in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and English Oaks, gained a deserved win in the Audi Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh today, providing her trainer Aidan O’Brien with his first win in the Group 1 race.
The daughter of Danehill was held up by Kieren Fallon before quickening to lead inside the final furlong, staying on well for an easy two length win over 2006 English 1000 Guineas winner Speciosa.
Afterwards O’Brien reported: 'Peeping Fawn is a typically fine big strong, tough daughter of Danehill. She was a little unlucky in the English Oaks but should have a good chance in the Irish Oaks in a few weeks.'
Fallon also added: 'She didn’t have an easy race on ground that she doesn’t really love but she is a great contender for the Oaks and you won’t get a better Oaks trial than today’s race.
He added: 'She keeps improving and I can’t believe how Aidan takes these fillies to this level after seven races already this season.'
Tommy Stack’s debutante Myboycharlie, Wayne Lordan, ran out the impressive winner of the Netjets Maiden.
The son of Danetime tracked the leaders before progressing to lead one out, staying on well for an ease three lengths win over Linsalata.
Afterwards Stack’s son Fozzy stated: 'Myboycharlie is a nice horse and Wayne (Lordan) said he hated today’s ground. He’d prefer better ground and will now go for the Tyros Stakes while he might make a National Stakes horse later on.'
The Group 3 At The Races Curragh Cup went for export with Peppertree Lane winning for trainer Mark Johnson and jockey Kevin Darley.
Johnson later said: 'Peppertree Lane loves testing ground and plans are very much ground dependant.'
The opening Dr Lewinn's Private Formula Handicap saw a first Curragh trained winner for Athlone based Florence Mills when her Kingsdale Orion, under Martin Lane, caused a 16/1 surprise when defeating Incline by half a length.
Afterwards Mills reported: 'I spent eights years in the Far East and came back six years ago. I had trained winners before my spell abroad but that is my first Curragh winner. Martin (Lane) rides very well and is good value for his 7lb claim.'
Tracey Collins’ Redstone Dancer, under Pat Shanahan, landed the Jordan Town & Country Estate Agents European Breeders Fund Summer Fillies Handicap while trainer Kevin Prendergast and jockey Declan McDonogh won the Woodies DIY Derby Festival Handicap with Celtic Dane.
