Katchit emulated Detroit City in 2006 by following up his victory in Cheltenham's Triumph Hurdle to take the John Smith's Anniversary 4-Y-O Novices' Hurdle.

Doctor David took the field along in the early stages from Is It Me, with Katchit third, although newcomer Sendani was pulled up after three flights.

Punjabi took closer order in fourth before the turn for home and looked a big danger to Katchit but he spoilt a winning chance with a mistake at the third-last.

Katchit, with Robert Thornrnton aboard, then pulled away to win his seventh race from eight starts in tremendous style and earn a 7-1 quote (from 10-1) with VC Bet for the 2008 Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle.

Alan King said afterwards: 'I had been very happy with his preparation but I was mindful that he's had a long season. I just hoped it wasn't one race too many but it clearly wasn't.

'He's loved it from day one. There was one (hurdle) down the back that he was very long at today but I'm thrilled to bits. He can have a nice long break now and we can dream for next season.'
