Cheltenham Gold Cup winner War Of Attrition is on course to make his seasonal reappearance at Punchestown on October 19.
The seven-year-old lowered the colours of the previous champion Kicking King in the Listed Daily Star Chase last season and trainer Mouse Morris sees no reason to change a winning formula.
'He's been at his owner's, Michael O'Leary, for the summer and he's in great form, hopefully he stays that way," Morris said.
'We've got some great memories from last season and we are still living off them now. It was a fantastic day at Cheltenham and Conor (O'Dwyer) gave him a great ride.
'He teaches the horses early in their careers and he looked after this fellow in the Arkle the year before when he made a mistake. He didn't give him a hard race when his chance had gone and it paid off in the long run,' the trainer told At The Races.
'The Gold Cup will be the plan again as long as he stays sound, that's the big thing. I think his programme will be something similar to last year. He'll start off at Punchestown on October 19 and then just take it race by race after that.
'He beat Kicking King in that race (Punchestown) last year, but you could never be confident of beating him again. I just hope they both get to Cheltenham in good form on the day next year.
'There is the big pot on offer by winning at Haydock first as well as the King George and at Cheltenham, but that hasn't entered our minds as yet.'
