Vic best on show at Navan

Southern Vic: best on show at Navan but Majilis, receiving 18lb, could be a fly in the ointment
Southern Vic: best on show at Navan but Majilis, receiving 18lb, could be a fly in the ointment

Navan stages a seven race card on Saturday where the first race is due off at 2.30pm. Best horse on display is Southern Vic, who should have little difficulty winning the Lobinstown Novice Chase for trainer Ted Walsh.

The son of Old Vic has proven himself a top novice and although at his best over three miles and further, opponents in this 2m1f contest are few.

Main danger to Southern Vic is Michael O'Brien's Majilis, who receives 18lbs from the selection. However, he may need to improve further from his third placing at Naas recently to win.

The Ladbrokes.ie Handicap Hurdle is a very competitive event with Aghacashel Angel selected to continue a consistent run of recent form.

The 9yo gelding was a winner at Fairyhouse in February and was narrowly beaten at Navan recently and despite now racing from 94, should be involved at the business end.

Others to consider are Camlin River, a winner at Thurles last time, Charles Byrnes' Mouftari and A New Story, who reverts to a hurdling following a good spell chasing recently.

Michael Hourigan's Hi Cloy has already won two Grade 1 races this season and the gelding can add the four runner Grade 3 An Uaimh Chase to his haul, with Nickname an obvious danger, if at his best.
