Downpatrick stages Ulster National

Downpatrick stages a seven race card on Wednesday where the first race is due off at 2.25pm.

Feature event of the year at the track is the E27,500 Powers Whiskey Ulster Grand National EBF Handicap Chase with
a full field of 15 lining up in this year's renewal.

In an open looking race, Ian Ferguson's Huncheon Paddy is tipped to defy an 8lbs rise following a win at Down Royal recently.

The multiple point to point winner has plenty of opposition, with top weight Harbour View, Thomond O'Mara's Captain Moonlight and Christy Roche's Like A Bee each holding every chance on paper.

The presence of Lakil Princess in her first run over fences makes the EBF Tattersalls (Ireland) Mares Novice Chase an interesting if somewhat uncompetitive event.

Paul Nolan's mare has improved well over hurdles, winning twice and attaining a rating of 117. Receiving plenty of weight from her rivals, an adequate round of jumping should see her account for Pat Fahy's Greenhall Rambler.

The Morning Star Belfast EBF Mares Novice Hurdle is possibly best left to Mervyn Torrens' Bella's Baileys.

The daughter of Zaffaran can provide some value following some consistent form in her recent handicaps with her main danger likely to be Lady Kate Ellen, herself a decent handicapper.
