Hedgehunter sights set on Aintree glory again.

Last year's winner Hedgehunter heads an entry of 148 for the John Smith's Grand National at Aintree on April 8.

Willie Mullins' 10-year-old romped to a 14-length victory over the Paul Nicholls-trained Royal Auclair in the four-and-a-half-mile showpiece and the pair could do battle once again.

Clan Royal, runner-up in 2004 and leading when carried out by a loose horse at Becher's Brook last year, could bid to make it third time lucky for trainer Jonjo O'Neill and owner JP McManus.

In total the Irish are responsible for 38 of the entries. Mullins also
has Euro Leader and Livingstonebramble involved while Ted Walsh, who won with Papillon in 2000, has entered Jack High Rince Ri.

Other possible contenders include the Michael Hourigan-trained Hi Cloy, Noel Meade's Sir Oj, 2005 Irish Grand National winner Numbersixvalverde and Thyestes Chase scorer Dun Doire.

Garvivonnian, successful over the Aintree fences last November in the Becher Chase, has also been entered, along with Frances Crowley's Nil Desperandum, who was sixth in the race last year.

The latter is among nine of the first 10 horses home last year who could reoppose, as It Takes Time (fourth), Forest Gunner (fifth), Nil Desperandum (sixth), Innox (seventh), Heros Collonges (eighth), Just In Debt (ninth) and Amberleigh House (10th) aim to do better.

Martin Pipe and Nicholls both look to hold strong hands with the former entering 22, including Joaaci, Therealbandit, Puntal and 2004 National third Lord Atterbury.

Nicholls has Royal Auclair in his 10 possibles as well as 2004 Welsh National hero Silver Birch and last year's Scottish National runner-up Cornish Rebel.

Philip Hobbs has entered Monkerhostin, second in the King George VI Chase and currently vying for favouritism in the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup, in the April 8 event.

The handler has five other chances in One Knight, Lacdoudal, Double Honour, Made In Japan and Tamango.

McManus has 13 to choose from with Innox, cross country specialist Spot Thedifference and Ground Ball amongst his prominent entries.

Nigel Twiston-Davies, who won the race with Earth Summit in 1998 and Bindaree in 2002, has five this time headed by Ollie Magern while Nicky Henderson has the same size team to select from.

Ferdy Murphy has multiple entries topped by Scottish National winner Joes Edge while Aintree legend Ginger McCain could field both previous winner Amberleigh House and Ebony Light as he bids for a last slice of glory before his planned retirement.
