Bryan Smart has expressed himself more than happy with Titus Alone after the Windsor Castle Stakes winner lost his unbeaten record in yesterday's Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury.
The Hambleton-based trainer's speedy juvenile had notched up a hat-trick this term, including a win at the Royal meeting, before being sent off the 2-1 favourite for yesterday's five-furlong dash.
Titus Alone failed to land the spoils though, coming home in eighth place under Kevin Darley, three lengths behind the victorious 100-1 chance Lady Livius.
Smart said today: "He stumbled coming out of the stalls and missed a couple of strides but he is alright and ran well - I was really pleased with him. He wasn't beaten that far and Kevin said that when you lose ground in that sort of race and then have had to race to get your position, you never get a chance to give your horse a breather.
"I am very pleased with him and he will live to fight another day - he is alright this horse and I am not disappointed."
Plans for Titus Alone remain fluid with Smart eyeing a possible trip to Glorious Goodwood on July 26.
He added: "He is in the Molecomb, the big sales race in Ireland, that is six furlongs
though, and he is in the Gimcrack, but we will have to see how he is before we
decide where we go."
