Tote Ireland appoint new CEO

Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) has announced the appointment of Mr Alexis Murphy as Chief Executive of Tote Ireland with effect from June 7.

Alexis, is currently a senior manager with Goodbody Corporate Finance, where he has served since 2001. He has broad experience in business and strategic analysis, venture capital fundraising and mergers and acquisitions for a variety of private, publicly quoted and state owned enterprises.

Following his graduation from Trinity College Dublin with a first class honours degree, (B.A. Economics) he worked as a freelance economic consultant.

Prior to working in Corporate Finance, he was the founder and managing Director of IBS Ltd., an internet start-up which developed a betting marketplace software platform in addition to other betting software for bookmakers and the betting industry.

The Chairman of Tote Ireland Mr Dermot Cantillon commented: "On behalf of the Board of Tote Ireland I welcome Alexis Murphy as our new chief executive. His considerable skills and experience are well suited to the development of our future plans. 

"Following record turnover in 2004, this is a very exciting time for Tote Ireland as we progress our strategy of growing our core business whilst developing new betting channels such as the
internet, international co-mingling and provision of Tote products in off-course betting outlets."

Brian Kavanagh, HRI.s chief executive said: "Alexis has a thorough understanding of the betting industry and the application of new technologies to traditional business models. He has the right set of credentials to lead the Tote team towards achieving their ambitious targets.

"Technology is fundamental to the rapidly developing Irish betting market and in this regard Alexis.s experience in this area will serve the Tote well."
