Munro back with a bang at Lingfield

Alan Munro made a triumphant return to Britain with victory on his first comeback ride, Phantom Whisper, in the Bet Direct  Red To Bet  On ITV Juvenile Conditions Stakes at Lingfield Park today.

The Derby-winning jockey, whose last winner in this country was Florentino at Pontefract in July 1997, brought Rod Millman's juvenile with a smooth run on the outside to take the first race for two-year-olds of the season.

Phantom Whisper (8-1) led inside the final furlong and went on to beat Danjet by a length and a half. Kung Hei (100-30) was another length and a quarter away third.

Munro, 38, who has been living in Hong Kong, arrived back in Britain on Thursday having taken a break from the saddle in April 2000 after winning the Queen Elizabeth Cup at Sha Tin on Industrialist.

Munro, who won the Derby on Generous in 1991, returned to the saddle recently riding two winners in New Zealand.

Kieren Fallon and Martin Dwyer endured traffic problems and were unable to ride Emily's Will and Blue Minx respectively.
