Lucky Story retired to stud

Lucky Story, runner-up in last year's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, has been retired to stud after suffering an injury in Dubai. The four-year-old son of Kris S missed last year's Classics after trainer Mark Johnston found him to be lame in the spring, but he bounced back and finished just half a length behind Rakti in the Group One event at Ascot last September.

Godolphin recruited Lucky Story to their powerful Dubai team at the end of the season but he has suffered a setback and will take up breeding duties at Tweenhills Stud in Gloucestershire.
Sam Bullard, Darley's head of nominations, told www.thoroughbredtimes.com: “Lucky Story is a top-class addition to the stallion ranks. We'll be doing all we can to get him off to as impressive a start at stud as his brother (half-brother and Group One winner) Dr Fong has managed.”

Lucky Story won four of his nine career starts including the Vintage Stakes and the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, a race in which he beat subsequent 2000 Guineas and Champion Stakes winner Haafhd. He ended his career by finishing ninth behind Haafhd in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket last October.
