Galway Breeze defied top weight in the hands of Richard McGrath to gain a memorable success for trainer Kate Walton in a dramatic Arthur Stephenson Novices' Handicap Chase at Wetherby today.
There were four horses with a chance turning for home, led by King Of The Arctic, but Omni Cosmo Touch fell when disputing the lead four out, and Up The Glen departed at the next.
King Of The Arctic was still at the head of affairs, but Galway Breeze (5-1) mastered him on the run to the final fence and drew away to score by 10 lengths.
Mrs Walton, who snapped up Galway Breeze for only 8,000gns at the Doncaster Sales, said: "It is great to have a winner here on 'Charlie Hall' day because Charlie was my uncle."
"It is great to win Arthur's race too, and now I would love to come back one day and win the Charlie Hall Chase itself."
