Irish Derby winner will want the right ground in Champion

The Baileys Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 11 is shaping up to be a high class renewal.

Once again it looks as if a very strong field will line up for the €1
million contest.

The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winner Doyen looks like the Number 1 choice for Godolphin.

Grey Swallow, the Irish Derby winner, trained by Dermot Weld is also set to run. The John Oxx trained Azamour is scheduled to run dependent on ground conditions.

The connections of the French trained Bago are also finalising their plans to bring the Group 1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris winner.

Rakti, trained by Michael Jarvis will also run again dependent on ground conditions.

Aidan O Brien has also indicated that Powerscourt is the most likely representative from the Ballydoyle stable.

No decision has yet been made on whether Mubtaker, trained by Marcus Tregoning will run or not.

Additional possible runners include Norse Dancer trained by David Elsworth; Imperial Dancer trained by Mick Channon. Trainer Mark Johnson will make a decision on supplementing Mister Monet at the forfeit stage next Monday.
