Maraahel not a definite for Leger

Michael Stoute's Maraahel is not certain to take his place in the Doncaster St Leger with connections yet to discuss his participation in the final classic of the season.

The son of Alzao is the general 5-1 third favourite for the Doncaster contest after his smart win in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last month.

"He is in the Leger, and we will be looking at it, certainly in terms of class," said Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Hamdan Al Maktoum.

There is no guarantee that he will stay, in terms of his pedigree. I would not tell anyone to back him yet because he is not a definite runner, the only reason being that we have not discussed it yet with the owner and Sir Michael.

We will have to see who else is running in the race, and what the weather is like, and then we will decide.

Maraahel has been a consistent performer this season, finishing runner-up on both of his other starts, to Pukka in a hot Newbury handicap, and to stable companion Admiral in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.
