A mouthwatering clash between Attraction and Russian Rhythm moved a step closer today after connections of the latter nominated Newmarket's Sun Chariot Stakes as a possible comeback race for their filly.
Both Classic winners are entered in the October 2 one-mile showpiece, as is top older filly Soviet Song. Russian Rhythm has been sidelined with a leg injury since taking her Group One tally to four in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury in May.
There had been concerns that Sir Michael Stoute's charge may not make it back on to the racecourse this term, but Chris Richardson, racing manager for owners Cheveley Park Stud, reports her to be progressing nicely.
"She is well," he said today. "She cantered this morning and is being brought along steadily, and as we know, Sir Michael is a very patient man."
The Sun Chariot is a possible race for Russian Rhythm, as is the QEII (at Ascot on September 25).
