Michael Stoute has ruled the John Smith Cup second Promotion out of the Ebor Handicap at York on Wednesday week.
The four-year-old was as low as 10-1 with Coral for the one-mile-and-six furlong race after finishing a head adrift of Arcalis in the John Smith at the Knavesmire on his last run.
However, Stoute said: "I would like to inform the public that Promotion will not be contesting the Ebor Handicap."
