Leading figures from the worlds of horse racing, high society and showbusiness gathered in London on Monday to remember legendary owner and breeder Robert Sangster, who died on April 7.
A packed congregation at the ornate church of St Paul's, Knightsbridge, heard tributes to the famous entrepreneur. amous names, such as the jockey Lester Piggott, who rode many of Sangster's winners, were present in the congregation along with key figures from the British Horseracing Board and the Jockey Club.
Those present from the horseracing world included former BBC racing commentator Peter O'Sullevan, stud boss John Magnier and trainer Michael Stoute.
The Reverend Alan Gyle, vicar of St Paul's, gave thanks for a life fully lived saying Sangster had been "smitten by a love of racing and horses."
Sangter was the best known and most successful British racehorse owner of the past 30 years, topping the owner table in 1977, 1978, 1982, 1983 and 1984.
He won the Derby twice - with The Minstrel in 1977 and Golden Fleece in 1982 - along with a raft of other big races - including the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas, Eclipse Stakes and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
