Silca's Gift produced a 25-1 surprise in the Shadwell Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes for trainer Mick Channon on day two of Newmarket's Craven meeting.

The filly was a promising sort early last season and won the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.  Her form tailed off after that but she was always travelling well up the middle of the track today and quickened up nicely with a couple of furlongs to run.

Incheni (50-1) gave chase well inside the last from the far rail group but could not peg the winner back.

French raider Roseanna stayed on for third but favourite Top Romance never figured.

Afterwards Channon added: "We lost her after Ascot last year, maybe it was the fast ground there but I have always thought a lot of her and she has been working well. She is not in the Newmarket Guineas but she could go for the German 1000."

Asked if she could be supplemented for the May 2 race at Newmarket, the trainer added: "I'll have to speak to the owner."
