Sandown Gold Cup meeting seeks new sponsor

Sandown Park are looking for a new sponsor for their April `Gold Cup' meeting next year after attheraces decided not to renew their backing after two years sponsoring the event.

The broadcasting and betting are intending to spread their sponsorship support more widely and as a result will not have their name attached to the Sandown 'Gold Cup' in the future - the race that brings the curtain down on the jumps season on Britain.

They sponsored a high-quality mixed programme of racing on the last Saturday of April that included the attheraces Gold Cup, formerly known as the Whitbread Gold Cup, the oldest-established commercially-sponsored race in Britain.

Attheraces sponsored the entire card, which also featured the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Celebration Chase, the Group Two Sandown Mile and the Group Three Gordon Richards Stakes.

Attheraces sponsorship and communications manager Tom Earl said: "Attheraces have very much enjoyed working with Sandown Park and have benefited greatly from our two-year sponsorship of the Gold Cup."
