Falbrav was today put through his paces and ecstatically reported in good form by Luca Cumani. Cumani stated that the five-year-old is now all set for his bid to land the BHB Middle Distance Championship when he contests the final leg of the series, the Juddmonte International, at York next Tuesday.
The Coral-Eclipse winner is one of four horses in with a chance of landing the £250,000 bonus although two of the quartet, Derby-winning duo Kris Kin and Alamshar, will miss the Knavesmire highlight. This leaves current two-point leader Nayef, trained in Lambourn by Marcus Tregoning, as the only obstacle in Falbrav's title bid.
"He's in excellent form and he's come out of the Eclipse and the King George in very, very good form and we are looking forward to York ", said the Italian after putting Falbrav through his paces with the rest of his Bedford Lodge string on the Newmarket gallops this morning.
"He's a five-year-old, he's strong, mature, he can take a lot of top-class races in a short space of time. Mentally, he's very, very good. The amazing thing about him is his good racing brain. You can set the exact pace you want with him, he doesn't pull. You can set the speedometer on 40 he goes 40, set it on 45 he goes 45; we're still looking for the 50 but we might never get there. "
Cumani has no doubts that Falbrav will be suited by York's galloping track: "Definitely. It's a flat course and especially if the ground is going to be on the fast side, that will suit him fine."
