Fergal Lynch has been banned for six days by the Jockey Club disciplinarypanel after admitting that he acted in an abusive manner at a stewards' inquiry at Ripon two weeks ago. The jockey was charged over his conduct towards the stewards and stewards' secretaries during, between and after the inquiries in which he was involved at the North Yorkshire track on July 7.
The stewards had refused to accept Lynch's explanation for his failure to arrive for an inquiry, adjourned from a meeting at Ripon on June 19 and which went ahead in his absence. He was fined £120. Lynch later publicly apologised for his behaviour. Having considered the evidence, including a statement from Lynch, who was legally represented, the panel accepted an admission from Lynch that he was in breach of Rule 220 (ii) (a) in that he behaved in an abusive manner on several occasions.
Taking into account his apology, the panel suspended him from riding for six days, from Thursday July 31 to Tuesday August 5 inclusive. The ban rules Lynch out of the last three days of the Glorious Goodwood meeting. Lynch completed his first century of 100 winners last year and his 24 victories so far this term include the Dee Stakes on subsequent Derby hero Kris Kin at Chester in May.
