Ulster National tops bill at Downpatrick

The Powers Ulster National tops the bill at Downpatrick on Wednesday and sees a rematch of last year’s first and third, Back In Thyne and Younowhat. Neither of those two have been in particularly good form lately though, and it may pay to side with top-weight, Delgany Royal. Dessie Hughes’ charge ran well enough behind Hedgehunter last time and can build on that to take this competitive event.

Ruby Walsh will be aboard the shortest priced favourite of the day when he takes the mount on Mossland in the second of the maiden hurdles. A fine third to Bellaficient at Gowran on his latest outing, the four-year-old stands out in this company. Promising young rider, Adrian Lane has fine prospects of a double.

Pat Fahy’s My Native Donegal looks a solid option in the opening race, whilst winning ‘pointer’ Eyelash has a definite chance in a moderate handicap hurdle. Fahy himself could double up with Good Fortune in the bumper and favourite backers would look likely to collect with William Ulsterman in the hunter chase and Leadamurraydance in the beginners chase.
