Australian jockey dies after fall

Australian jockey Jason Oliver died today from head injuries he sustained in a fall. The 33-year-old died in a Perth hospital after failing to regain consciousness from a heavy tumble the previous day.

Jason's father Ray was also killed in a race fall in 1975. His younger brother Damien is scheduled to ride Dermot Weld's Media Puzzle in next Tuesday's Melbourne Cup. The connections of Media Puzzle said they would let Damien make up his own mind on whether he would still ride in Australia's most famous race.
