Jeremy Phipps resigned from his position as director of security at the Jockey Club on Wednesday, conceding in a letter to senior steward Christopher Spence that his role had become untenable and that he had caused embarrassment, for which he has apologised.
He has paid the ultimate price for his contribution to the BBC's Panorama programme The Corruption of Racing, when he come under intense pressure after featuring in a covertly-taped conversation - with his predecessor Roger Buffham, who turned whistle-blower on the show which attacked racing's regulators and claimed the sport was institutionally corrupt.
