Club say apprentice claims unsubstantiated

Claims by an unidentified former apprentice jockey that he was paid to fix races are not substantiated by any evidence, according to the Jockey Club. Identified only as `Jamie' in a report in Tuesday's Daily Record, the rider said he plotted along with his fellow jockeys to make sure the horses they had backed finished first.

But Jockey Club public relations director John Maxse said: "The apprentice story from yesterday is very hard to weigh up. It's just a story - there's no evidence or corroboration of any sort. You have to be suspicious also of the motives of the individuals. One can only go on actual evidence and there are no horses or racecourses even referred to here.
