Kerry National the Listowel centrepiece

The third day of the Listowel Festival features its centerpiece race of the week, the Guinness Kerry National. The maxium field of 18 runners go to post, with a strong English challenge headed by the Paul Nicholls-trained General Claremount.

The Irish-trained home brigade will be no easy pushover however with several horses in with good claims. The best handicaped of these may turn out to be the Jimmy Mangan-trained Montys Pass, a horse who will love the track and ground conditions.

The rest of the card looks very competitive, so finding winners will be no easy task. The best bet of the day should be Millstreet in the first, trained and ridden by the in-form team of John Oxx and Johnny Murtagh. A highly consistent performer, who just might improve on a tight track, he should carry too many guns for the Aidan O'Brien-trained Sorcerous.
