Ban hits Fallon title hopes

Champion Flat jockey Kieren Fallon has a fight on his hands if he is retain his title this season after he was handed a 13-day suspension at a Jockey Club hearing this morning. Fallon, who declined to comment as he left Portman Square for his booked rides at Salisbury, was also given a further four days which will be activated if he commits another offence within the next three months.

His punishment comes under the `totting-up' procedure after he was found guilty of irresponsible riding of a minor nature at Newmarket last month and had already accrued 16 days' worth of suspensions in the past 12 months. Among the races Fallon will miss are the Rothmans Royals St Leger and the Ayr Gold Cup. He will return to the saddle at Ascot on September 27. Fallon currently leads the jockeys' championship by 13 winners from Richard Hughes.
